A while back I was reading an article on depression and it said,
“Depression is the inability to construct a future.” ~Rollo May
When you find yourself stuck in depression, you have the opportunity to get out of that rut by seeing yourself beyond your current circumstances. Throw your heart over the bar and your body will follow. In other words, “Future Build”.
When you live in the past, you deny yourself the ability to prepare for your future.
Dr. Robert Gilliam says,
“People who live in the past, back into their future.”
Stuck in the Past
There are two reasons people get stuck back there.
Dwelling on the Past. “Those were the good ol’ days.” The mentality that there will never be another time like the days of your past, so why bother working for tomorrow.
Trauma. Some negative catastrophic event has locked their vision onto that moment and they cannot move beyond it. Therefore, they never Future Build.
People who are able to stop living in the past, either because those were the good old days or due to some trauma are able to live in the present and plan, or in other words, Future Build.
Again, I understand the problem with being locked into yesterday because of past issues, but the surest way to pull away from this is to make your tomorrow more attractive than yesterday.
If you believe that your best days are behind you,
If you believe you’re too old,
It’s too late,
You got a bad start,
You have too much baggage,
Then, you are wrong.
It all depends upon your understanding of your worth.
As with anything, worth is the energy with which we are able to flip the Belief switch. This belief first happens internally, then socially (seen as belief in others) which then activates Trust which motivates Outreach, that then is received or not by others. So, it either has no effect or a rebound effect that will warrant a repeat or not.
SELF WORTH > BELIEF IN SELF > BELIEF IN OTHERS > TRUST > OUTREACH > RECEPTION or (REBOUND OR RESPONSE) > REPEAT
Remember, Social Handles require new programming that flips the Belief switch.
To get others to Future Build, I train them to:
- Set meaningful Goals.
- Establish purposeful Rituals.
These steps will activate your social “Action Sites” which are what is similar with others and acceptance of differences of others.
Call to action: Make a choice to create tomorrow. Make your tomorrows different from your yesterdays.
You can do that much.
